Mission Instrument Overview

All Compunetix end instruments provide access to multiple voice circuits, including standard conference loops, radio nets, public address systems, and external telephone lines. Every Compunetix mission instrument supports intercom calls and a host of special functions, including:

  • Voice Activity Indicator
  • Monitor Mute
  • Conference Focus
  • Talk/Listen Focus
  • Conference Broadcast
  • Conference Join/Unjoin
  • Push‑to‑talk or VOX
  • Speaker Mute, etc.

Compunetix mission instruments support numerous advanced features, including:

  • Unlimited Mixed Monitor
  • Independent Volume Controls
  • Assignable Stereo Channels
  • Monitor Speaker Channel
  • DTMF Dial Pad
  • Call Forwarding
  • E&M Signaling
  • Assignable Foot Switch, etc.

All Compunetix mission instruments can be configured by a system administrator at a system configuration computer. The system administrator can allow or deny special functions for a mission instrument or a mission instrument user. Changes to line key configurations are applied to mission instruments in real time, and scripting allows bulk changes to be applied to multiple mission instruments very quickly.

Conference Detail

The conference detail list allows the mission instrument user to see all the parties in a selected conference, including other mission instrument users and external users connected with the conference via a telephone line. If granted permission, the mission instrument user can change each external user’s audio mode to talk/listen, monitor only, talk only, or mute. If granted permission, the mission instrument user can also transfer external parties from the conference displayed in the conference detail list to another conference as long as no security violations arise as a result. Finally, the mission instrument user, if granted permission, can disconnect any external party.

Call Queue

A call queue lists all telephone calls, both incoming and outgoing, and allows the end user to put calls on hold, join calls with conferences, and disconnect calls. Each call appears as a temporary line key. The mission instrument user answers an incoming call by touching its line key. If granted permission, the mission instrument user can transfer calls to conferences and join calls with one another or with conferences. A mission instrument user can also forward incoming calls to another mission instrument. On a type II mission instrument, secure and non‑secure calls can be forwarded to different destinations.

WAM

The Wideband Audio Module (WAM) is a device that allows a mission instrument user to listen to up to eight wideband audio sources simultaneously and mix them in monitor mode with one another and with conferences. Each wideband audio source is assigned to a line key on the mission instrument. The mission instrument user can select any wideband audio source by touching its line key. As with any other conference, the mission instrument user can join a wideband audio source with other conferences so that external parties and other mission instrument users can hear the wideband audio.

Red/Black

Most of Compunetix’ end instruments are available in a TEMPEST‑certified red/black configuration that can connect with two CONTEX systems simultaneously. A red/black instrument allows a single user to access both secure and non-secure voice with the assurance that the secure audio will not be compromised. Secure line keys are distinguished from non‑secure line keys by color or position.
